A 10 min shower gonna cost £2.50 real soon.
I generally do 2-3 mins.
But either way this is getting hysterical pricing, then it got me thinking…
I think as a nation, a generation, the relative luxury of life we all been living is gonna have to start being stepped down.
And as short term uncomfortable as it may be for the sake of the Earth, this is the way it probably needs to go.
Compare your life and living conditions to that of our parents and Grandparents, outside toilet, a metal “bath” with heated water that was shared.
Electric fire in one room.
Paraffin heater in the bedroom.
Now most homes have central heating.
We just expect it.
Think about every generation before ours…
We been over-spoiled as a generation.
We addicted to comfort.
It’s lowered our resilience.
We all now have widescreen tellies, multiple devices, you can buy an iPad knock off for £50.
All this stuff has to be manufactured, distributed, marketed and sold.
It’s out of control.
My generation got a 10p mix bag on Friday after school.
Now it’s haribo on tap.
Macdonalds was a birthday treat, now it’s standard for kids.
The equilibrium of the lives we live is all out.
We expect too much, for too little.
We don’t want to pay more for anything, but we want more of everything.
We all want the next cool as fuck thing, the designer bag with the logo on, the blue metallic flake car paint, just because more stuff to make us “happy”
Nobody wants to pay the financial price, yet our out of control overconsumption is gonna cost us something a whole lot more that £££.
We all resisting making change… but we’re heading to the point where we have no option other than to make change.
Fossil fuels have peaked.
We on the road to massive restrictions within 50 years.
At some point change needs to happen.
No one likes it.
But truth is we all must do it.
I don’t know what the answer is, but maybe us prioritising spend on genuine essentials is.
What goes up.
Must go down.
It’s a massive gulf of recalibration. That needs to be bridged.
That’s why we may feel the pain of that bridging.
We never had it so good…
As a result we may begin to have it so bad.
Ps: I LOVE the new Chevrolet. Case in point.
This car has to be manufactured from finate resource.
Would it make me GENUINELY happy buying it. No. Would it give me SHORT TERM JOY. Yup for a few months.
Then it would turn into what it always just was, a car.
Wake up time people… we are trading short term joy, entitlement & comfort for a longterm permanent problem.
The stuff we take from the earth can’t be magically replaced it took billions of years to form.
Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
We may not be able to technology, our way out of this. What we’re seeing now is the tipping point reached, our major short term problem is likely gonna be a generation away (mine & your kids) MAJOR problem.
BTW the iPhone 14 looks lit af.
We as a society have created an itch that can never be scratched.
