He will be living a financial position and standing he never in his wildest dreams expected he would be in.
Perhaps he was no longer hungry enough....
Over confidence?
Underestimating his opponent?
Thinking about the fight after this one?
Not enough pre fight prep?
Didn’t eat/hydrate well?
Over awed by the occasion? Or maybe he just found his level?
Whatever the reason. He lost.
Let me be quite clear here, the fact he got to headline @ Madison Square Garden, the fact he unified the titles. The fact he broke through to the world stage!
Is a MASSIVE achievement. Yet today pride balance will have taken a withdrawal.
This fight will be a defining day for him.
His path changed on Saturday.
He can either consider it a LOSS or a LEARN
Either way an ‘L’ goes on his record.
Over the last 5 years, when I’ve spoken, I’ve taken the “Loss” maybe 5 times when things just don’t go my way.
Something was just out.
These times are so memorable for all the wrong reasons. I’d beat myself up over and over. I still do. But 10% of what I used to do!
In each of these events, if I could rerun it I’d nail it...
But I can’t, rerun and have the event again. Neither can you with any L’s you’ve taken.
But you can use the experience of a Loss to give you a greater chance of winning and prepare you for the next time you face it.
Next time out. So.
Today’s lesson, your last L, is either a LOSS or a LOSS & a LEARN.
